North East Better Health at Work award

The North east Better Health at Work award (BHAW) is a regional award scheme which has been developed to give recognition and endorsement to those workplaces that motivate workers in developing a sustainable culture of health and well-being.

The award is a dynamic partnership between the NHS and local businesses, structured to maximise opportunities for promoting health in the workplace. The award scheme is open to all organisations regardless of business size or sector, and brings the benefit of acknowledgement for health excellence in practice.

Some of the benefits of good workplace health are to:

  • Reduce ill health caused, or made worse, by work.
  • Help people who have been ill, whether caused by work or not, to return to work.
  • Improve work opportunities for people currently not in employment due to ill health or disability.
  • Use the work environment to help people maintain or improve their health.

The award helps workplaces to achieve these goals irrespective of business size.
