General information on workplace health and well being

ACAS: The Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service. The service operates a national help line on 08457 474747

The equality and human rights commission: various acts can be downloaded, along with explanations and advice

“Health and Safety Executive Stress Management Standards.” Very good guidance on managing stress in the workplace.

The health and safety executive: provides information and advice on Health and Safety at work. HSE Info line 0845 345 0055

Improving health in your workplace, see Creating a Healthy Workplace – A Guide for Occupational Safety and Health Professionals and Employers, which is available at www.fph.org.uk and www.facoccmed.ac.uk.

Legal Services Commission: provides information on legal matters including legal aid. Also runs the Community Legal Service telephone advice services re debt, housing, benefits:  0845 345 4 345

National Association of Citizens' Advice Bureau: offer masses of information on employment and other issues.

NHS Employers: advice to employers and staff on stress in the workplace.

TUC – The Trades Union Congress: Comprehensive information on a range of workplace issues.  Has a particularly good Health and Safety section. 

WorkSMART: this is a TUC user friendly website offering advice on work-related health for all workers and employers, with useful links to other relevant sites.

Mental health and well being

Employers for Work-life Balance: Provides examples of flexible working hours in companies across the UK

Managing Sickness Absence and Return to Work: Useful info from the health and safety executive website.

Mind Out for Mental Health Line Managers’ Resource.  This is a very useful guide to mental health issues in the workplace. It was produced by the Mental Health Foundation.
