Putting People First programme
Putting People First is a major national change programme for adult social care, aimed at improving support.
Changes include:
-
Information, advice and assistance will be available to anyone requiring social care, regardless of their financial circumstances - not just people who are eligible for social care from the council.
-
The current way of working will be replaced with a person-centered, community-based support system, called self-directed support to provide support to adults, focusing on well-being, health, independence and improved quality of life.
-
All adults who need social care will be offered a personal budget and help with deciding how to spend the budget. This offers increased choice and control for individuals and promotes independence.
A staged introduction
This is a big change to the way we work now so we have chosen to introduce self-directed support in stages. This will mean that some people will be able to plan their own support themselves and receive a personal budget before others.
Self-directed support is now being introduced in Northumberland for people who have not received social care before.
If you already receive social care and you are interested in self-directed support, please speak with your care manager at your review. We plan to have self-directed support available for everyone eligible in Northumberland from April 2011.
