Self-directed support and personal budgets

Self-directed support is for adults (aged 18 and over) who need social care and support in their daily life. It is the process by which you decide:

• what support or help you need
• when the support is used
• who provides the support

We use this information to give you an indication of how much money could be available to pay for the support you need. This money is called a personal budget.

How can self-directed support help you?

This new service puts you at the centre of decisions about what you want to achieve in life, how you live, and what social care and support you need to do this.

Self-directed support can help you to live as independently as possible and develop better links with your local community. It gives you greater choice and control over your services and your life.
